Biomass for Clean, Renewable Energy

Our biomass production is a strong example of the way we enhance sustainability by harnessing every aspect of our working forests.

Made up of material derived from trees, plants and other forest byproducts, biomass can be transformed into a renewable source of energy and fuel. For example, our Southeast operations supply European customers with wood chips and pellets that are used to support power plants and heat people’s homes. We also sell woody biomass products—such as pine needles, sawdust and slash from thinning projects—to biorefineries.

The generation of renewable energy is just one of the benefits our biomass products create. These products also create local job opportunities and enhance local economies while helping large organizations and governments accelerate progress toward their sustainability goals. Finally, biomass products support wildfire mitigation by removing materials that could otherwise lead to heightened risks.

Green Diamond has participated in research projects that seek to identify ways to make biomass fuel production more cost-effective and collaborative. One such project, Waste to Wisdom was at our Big Lagoon forest tract in Humboldt County, California.
